Why do we teach music? Because it feeds and nourishes your spirit and soul. Studying music may make you a little smarter, might help with your spatial reasoning skills, and it could help improve your study time. However, the most important reason for studying music and how to play a musical instrument is that it is uniquely equipped to feed your spirit and soul unlike any other subject and activity in the school curriculum today. Feed your spirit and soul; sign up for lessons today!
Our school was founded in 2001 as Case Drum and Guitar Studio, located in Tea, SD in the First Street Plaza. In 2006, to accommodate the growing number of students, we moved our school to 125 W. 1st Street in Tea and we changed our name to Case Music Studio. In 2011 we moved to the heart of historic downtown Sioux Falls across the street from the city's cultural center, the Washington Pavilion. In the spring of 2013, we continued to grow and moved to the Western Mall next to the West Mall 7 Cinema and Hoover's Martial Arts. In 2020 we relocated to Tea, SD offering mostly online lessons.
Over the years, many of our students have earned positions in South Dakota All-State Band and All-State Orchestra, as well as South Dakota All-State Jazz Band and Iowa All-State Jazz Band. Percussion students have participated in various Sioux Falls high school drum lines and independent drum lines SuFuDu and Groove. Students consistently receive superior ratings at regional instrumental solo and ensemble contests. Many students have received music scholarships to schools such as McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, MN, Augustana College, SDSU, and Dordt college and have gone on to pursue careers as professional musicians.
Many students participate in their middle school and high school jazz bands with several having been selected over the years to perform in the All-City High School Jazz Band and the All-City Middle School Jazz Band. Several students perform in their church praise bands and have formed various bands with friends, performing for events such as Lifelight and the downtown Jazz Crawl.
Some of our voice students participate in area community plays and musicals, having had major roles in musicals at the Orpheum Theatre and the Washington Pavilion. As part of their school's oral interp and one-act play teams, they have participated in regional and state tournaments.
While several students have chosen to pursue careers in music, many of our students go on to college to study the sciences, engineering, and medicine.
Whether you’re a school age student wishing to learn a musical instrument for the first time, an older student that would like to improve your musical skills, or an adult finally getting that opportunity to study music, Case School of Music can meet your needs!
